My business is a family-run business, TAGLIENTE. Since 2018, the baton has been passed to me, the youngest daughter, TAGLIENTE ANTONELLA, who renamed the business "LACASEDDHA." For three generations, she has managed olive groves for extra virgin olive oil in Puglia, and arable crops for two generations.
The olive grove property is approximately 50 hectares, with approximately 200 trees per hectare, ranging in age from 50 to 500 years.
In normal production, I'm currently on 20 hectares. We've completely uprooted about 30 hectares, replanting 10 hectares 5 years ago with olive trees that aren't yet in production. The others, unfortunately, are used for grains and vegetables. As you well know, on the 15 hectares where I work, I've completely uprooted 300-year-old trees, and my plan is to replace at least the 5 hectares in front of and behind the rural lammia (with a sixth of semi-traditional planting of resistant varieties, we're talking about 1,000 plants minus the 150 already planted, thanks also to your kind help).
Between the tree, supports, sponges, and labor, the price per tree is around 30 euros for small plants of a few centimeters.
XYLELLA IS A BACTERIA THAT HAS DISTURBED THE RURAL ECONOMY OF OUR FARMS IN A RURAL CONTEXT WHERE PEOPLE PRACTICALLY LIVED ONLY ON THIS. THE SITUATION HAS DEGENERATED AND AT THE MOMENT THERE IS NO PHYTOSANITARY REMEDY OTHER THAN ERADICATION FOR NEW PLANTS WHICH, HOWEVER, DO NOT PRODUCE FOR LESS THAN 10 YEARS. FOR THIS REASON, THE SUPPORT OF THOSE LIKE US WHO LOVE NATURE AND WANT TO PROTECT THE SOIL AND PROVIDE OXYGEN TO AN ATMOSPHERE UNDER HIGH STRESS WOULD BE OF GREAT HELP NOT FOR US TODAY BUT FOR THE GENERATIONS TO COME.
